Try Honey,
Not Cold Medicine to Treat a Child's Cough
The next time your over 2 child has a cold, try skipping
the kids' cold medicine, use some honey and call your pediatrician
instead.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and other
children's health professionals have raised concerns about common
over-the-counter remedies. The safety of these products and whether
the benefits justify any potential risks from the use of these products
in children, especially in children under 2 years of age is no being
questioned.
In the US alone, more than 1,500 children under
age 2 were treated in emergency rooms in 2004 and 2005 for problems
related to taking cold and cough medicines.
Some drug-free ways to ease your child's symptoms
are to provide plenty of fluids, including chicken soup, which is
loaded with vitamins and minerals. One of the best ways is to
offer a teaspoon honey and two drops of lemon juice in warm water
to relieve a cough in a child over age 2.

Health Tip: Have you thought about how great it would
be to include your family in your pursuit to exercise more
regularly? Family exercise will improve the health of your
loved ones, make exercise more fun, and at the same time develop
stronger connections between all of you. With a little creativity,
you can find a way to make it work for everyone.
Beauty Tip: Keep lips moist by eating honey. Whether
in your tea or toast, it will help keep your lips soft and
smooth.
"Honey's natural sugars tend to stick to your lips,
increasing their ability to attract and maintain moisture,"
says Kenneth Beer, MD, an assistant professor of dermatology
at the University of Miami
